Genstar strongly believes that significant value can be created by combining strong management with businesses in industries where there is potential for significant underlying growth. Thus, our approach is centered around identifying segments within our target industry areas where we believe there are strong growth prospects. We invest significant time and resources researching these particular industry segments and working with our Strategic Advisory Board our network of operating executives, and other industry experts to identify transition issues, substitution trends or growth opportunities within these industry segments. We work closely with existing or prospective management to create a plan for building value.
While we conduct exhaustive and comprehensive deal due diligence, we are able to leverage our up front industry research and network to move quickly to complete a transaction. We also use the period of due diligence to build a long-term partnership with management. Given our view of the importance of good management, we carve out significant stock options for the management team and encourage individual management members to invest alongside Genstar in the deal.
Unlike some financial buyers, we do not view ourselves as passive investors. Given our operating, transactional and strategic backgrounds, we look for opportunities where our approach of partnering with strong management teams can have a meaningful impact on the business and add significant long-term value.
