Melvin D. Booth serves on Genstar’s Strategic Advisory Board and advises the Firm in the area of life sciences. He is retired President and Chief Operating Officer of MedImmune, Inc. Mr. Booth was a member of the Board of Directors for MedImmune, Inc. from November 1998 through March 2005 and was the company’s president and chief operating officer from 1998 to 2004. The company is one of the largest and most successful biotechnology companies in the world. Dedicated to advancing science and medicine to help people live better lives, MedImmune (acquired by AstraZeneca PLC on June 2007) is focused on pediatric infectious diseases, cancer and inflammatory diseases with approximately 3,000 employees worldwide and is headquartered in Maryland.

Prior to joining MedImmune, Mr. Booth was President and Chief Operating Officer of Human Genome Sciences, Inc. where he was also a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors. From 1975 to 1995, he was employed at Syntex Corporation. He held a variety of positions, including President of Syntex Laboratories, Inc., President of Syntex, Inc., Canada and Vice President of Syntex Corporation.

Mr. Booth has been active in U.S. pharmaceutical industry organizations and is a past Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Canada. He is actively involved in real estate investments through Edge Commercial and currently serves as a director on the board of Ventria BioScience, as Lead Director of Millipore Corporation and Chairman of the Boards of Prestwick Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Catalent Pharma Solutions, Inc., and PRA International, Inc.

Mr. Booth graduated with honors and holds an honorary Doctor of Science degree from Northwest Missouri State University. Mr. Booth is a Certified Public Accountant.
