Strategic Advisory Board
Genstar Capital’s Strategic Advisory Board (SAB) provides portfolio companies with a rich source of operating experience and strategic insight, in addition to advising the firm on our investments. The SAB is composed of influential senior executives who are current or former leaders of major corporations. These executives work directly with Genstar Capital and our portfolio companies—sometimes as Board members—to develop strategic plans, expand market opportunities, source acquisitions and recruit executives and board members.


Mr. Booth advises Genstar Capital in the area of life sciences. Mr. Booth has previously held senior positions at Medimmune, Inc., Human Genome Sciences, Inc. and Syntex Corporation. Mr. Booth serves as the Chairman of PRA International, Inc. and a Director of Catalent Pharma Solutions.
Mr. Carpenter is an Operating Partner and also serves on Genstar Capital’s Strategic Advisory Board to advise the firm in the area of industrial technology. Previously, Mr. Carpenter served as President and CEO of Barnes Group (NYSE: B) and as Chairman and CEO of General Signal Corporation. Mr. Carpenter serves as a Director of MW Industries, Inc. and Voice Construction.
Mr. Chookaszian advises Genstar Capital in the area of financial and business services. Mr. Chookaszian is the retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CNA Insurance Companies (CNA), where he served from 1992 until 1999. Mr. Chookaszian first joined CNA in 1975 and held a number of senior positions before becoming CEO in 1992. Mr. Chookaszian serves as a Director of 21st Services and Confie Seguros.
Mr. Clark is an Operating Partner and also serves on Genstar Capital’s Strategic Advisory Board to advise the firm in the area of life sciences. Previously, Mr. Clark served as Director, CEO and President of ICOS Corporation. Mr. Clark has additionally held senior positions at Abbott Laboratories, Marion Laboratories and Sandoz Pharmaceuticals. Mr. Clark serves as a Director of Catalent Pharma Solutions.
Mr. Conway advises Genstar Capital in the area of life sciences. Since November 1999, Mr. Conway has served as the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Array BioPharma. Mr. Conway has also held senior positions at Hill Top Research, Inc. and Corning Inc. Mr. Conway serves as a Director of PRA International, Inc.
Mr. Dowdell advises Genstar Capital in the area of financial and business services. Mr. Dowdell is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Marshall & Swift / Boeckh, and is also a founder, Chairman and former Chief Executive Officer of Career Education Corporation (NASDAQ: CECO). Mr. Dowdell serves as a Director of 21st Services and TravelCLICK, Inc.
Mr. Dwight advises Genstar Capital in the area of industrial technology. Mr. Dwight is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Optical Coating Laboratory, and has also served as Chief Executive Officer of Superconductor Technologies, Inc. and was a founder and Chief Executive Officer of Spectra Physics, Inc.
Mr. Haymaker advises Genstar Capital in the area of industrial technology. Mr. Haymaker was Chairman and CEO of Kaiser Aluminum Corporation from January 1994 through December 1999, and was Non-Executive Chairman of that company from October 2001 until July 2006. Prior to joining Kaiser, he served in executive positions for Alcoa Inc., and Alumax Inc.
Mr. Hurt advises Genstar Capital in the area of industrial technology. Mr. Hurt is the Executive Chairman of Altra Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: AIMC) and former Chief Executive Officer from 2004 until retiring in December 2008. Prior to Altra, Mr. Hurt spent 13 years at TB Wood’s and 23 years with the Torrington Company, a division of Ingersoll Rand. Mr. Hurt serves as a Director of MW Industries, Inc.
Mr. Lytle advises Genstar Capital in the area of healthcare services. Mr. Lytle is the Executive Chairman of Univita Health. He was the Chairman and CEO of AXIA Health Management LLC from November 2004 through its sale to Healthways, Inc. in November 2006. Prior to AXIA, Mr. Lytle was instrumental in repositioning a small Blue Cross and Blue Shield company into Anthem (now WellPoint, Inc.), a Fortune 500 company and one of the largest health benefit companies in the U.S.
Mr. Mankoff advises Genstar Capital in the area of software and software services. Previously, Mr. Mankoff worked as Senior Vice President Global and Technical Services at Siebel Systems, Inc., which was acquired by Oracle Corporation in 2006. Prior to Siebel, he held various product, marketing, and sales management positions at several software companies including Oracle. Mr. Mankoff serves as a Director of ConvergeOne and Netsmart Technologies.
Mr. Schmaier advises Genstar Capital in the area of software and software services. Previously, Mr. Schmaier worked as the Executive Vice President at Siebel Systems, Inc., which was acquired by Oracle Corporation in 2006. Prior to Siebel, Mr. Schmaier worked in a variety of sales and marketing roles at Oracle Corporation and as a strategy consultant at Braxton Associates (now part of Deloitte Consulting). Mr. Schmaier serves as a Director of TravelCLICK, Inc.
Mr. Shaheen advises Genstar Capital in the area of software and software services. Mr. Shaheen was the Chief Executive Officer of Siebel Systems, Inc. from April 2005 to January 2006. He was the Chief Executive Officer and Global Managing Partner of Andersen Consulting, which later became Accenture, from 1989-1999. Mr. Shaheen was also the CEO and Chairman of the Board of Webvan Group, Inc. from 1999-2001. Mr. Shaheen serves as a Director of PRA International, Inc. and Univita Health, Inc.
Mr. Sheehy is an Operating Partner and also serves on Genstar Capital’s Strategic Advisory Board to advise the firm in the area of healthcare services. From 1986 to 2008, Mr. Sheehy served with UnitedHealth Group in a number of senior positions, and became CEO of UnitedHealthcare in 2000. In 2007, Mr. Sheehy became Senior Vice President of UnitedHealth Group. Mr. Sheehy serves as a Director of Univita Health, Inc. and Evolution1, Inc.
Mr. Wroe advises Genstar Capital in the areas of financial and business services and software and software services. Mr. Wroe served as Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Chicago-based CNA from 1996 to 2001. From 1983 to 1996, he served as Chairman and CEO of Agency Management Systems, Inc.
Mr. Zabriskie advises Genstar Capital in the area of life sciences. Mr. Zabriskie was past Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NEN Life Science Products, Inc. and is currently President of Lansing Brown, Investments, LLC. Prior to joining NEN, Mr. Zabriskie was President and Chief Executive Officer of Pharmacia & Upjohn, Inc. Previously, Mr. Zabriskie was Executive Vice President of Merck and Co., Inc. and President of Merck Manufacturing Division.
