Richard Thomas

Richard Thomas is a member of Genstar’s Strategic Advisory Board, advising the firm and expanding its portfolio in the area of healthcare.

Richard serves as a director for Genstar portfolio companies Signant Health and Advarra. He is also a director at ProPharma Group and Trialbee, and serves as an advisory board member for Datavant, Change Healthcare, Vitaltrax and Lokavant.

Prior to Genstar, Richard served as President, Technology & Solutions and member of the executive committee at Quintiles, the world’s largest pharma services/contract research organization from 2005 through 2016. He created its technology business through a high growth era which included a successful IPO in 2013 (NYSE: Q) and later merger with IMS Health to create IQVIA (NYSE: IQVIA). Leading a team of 2,400 staff operating in 100 countries, his business delivered award-winning technology platforms and services for clinical development, commercialization and real-world evidence research to many of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and biotech companies.

Richard has a 30-year track record of leadership and innovation building technology and data/analytics focused product and services businesses across industries including roles at Nielsen, Castrol and bay area startup Telephia. He has received multiple accolades for innovation including the #1 business technology innovator across the pharmaceutical industry (2011, 2012), and the Scrip award for best clinical development technology innovation (2013).

Richard also holds a New Zealand pilots license and competes globally in motorsport with numerous podiums and two North American championship titles (2016, 2017).
